We are Brend and Silke, two Dutchies and the proud owners of our sailboat ‘Aim’. In this blog we introduce our story and explain our dream to explore the world with our sailboat. We both grew up sailing and are very fond of it! That’s why we have been on holiday on sailboats many times. This is also where the idea started to live and go travelling on a sailboat! We very much like the idea that we are able to travel with the boat as our home and the wind as our fuel. Also to us it is convenient and nice to live in a small and minimalistic space like our boat, because we don't like to have much stuff. Life is about making memories, doing things outside our comfort zones, learning new skills and being present while doing so.
We also feel like ‘the time is now’ to set sail on this journey. We have many reasons why we think this way and we will explain the biggest reasons for you. One is the fact that, at the moment, we both are not ready to really settle down. Yes we love each other and like living together, but we are not ready to buy a house and do what is ‘normal’ to most people. In Dutch we call this ‘huisje, boompje beestje’. Literally translated this means ‘house, tree and animal’ which makes no sense, but stands for: living a civil life. Secondly we don’t feel like buying a house at this time, because the prices are way too high for the type of home we desire!
The last reason is that we feel like doing this NOW! Of course we could wait until we both are retired. Then we will have ’the time’ and probably more savings, which would be very convenient, but why wait when we live NOW? NOW we have this urge, the health and the drive to jump to this opportunity. Isn’t that what life is about?!
